Re: Fake it til you make it?

should you try to fake your own situation as to not get pity or should you be honest? When I encounter people who are financially ahead than me I just think that it will be me someday... That I will reach that level too where I would be able to buy whatever they can. So basically I try to make them my inspiration. Do you take inspiration from the rich people or do they make you feel worse?

In my opinion, it is natural to compare oneself to a person of greater wealth. Personally, it can create motivation or tend to be negative, depending on how one uses such information. Due to the frog-pond effect, one may revert to the feeling of being small rather than feeling motivated to aspire to be like the high performers you may be socializing with. Also, when wealth is correlated with your social experience, you may create an altered reality to avoid either being treated as less than or judged  but there is no value in creating a false narrative for your life. All that does is create stress and avoid genuine growth.

consider those individuals who perhaps feel ahead as examples to study, rather than threats to your progress. Ask yourself, what have they done to get there? Then apply similar actions to your own journey. If they are creating feelings of shame, that is your clue to make a shift in your mindset. Allow their success to be your motivation instead of your excuses.
