Real coke is like 30 minutes of basically a glorified caffeine rush.

It's a lot more than that. Cocaine, amphetamine and other strong stimulants are ego boosters. This is why they are dangerously addictive. Psychedelics on the other hand can be ego inhibitors.

Decades ago I had a friend who advocated alternating stimulant times with psychedelic times: Keep your ego in check with psychedelics until it becomes too small and the recover it with stimulants. Back and forth.

It's far too easy to let one's ego get out of control. Ego feels good. Ego suppression can be uncomfortable.

The more concentrated the stimulant the more unwieldy the ego boost can become. Snorting little lines of "real coke" is relatively harmless. Most retail cocaine has been heavily diluted. Start injecting it intravenously or freebasing it (crack) and it's a whole new ball game.

I had second thoughts about including cocaine in my original post because there really is no valid "emergency" use for it. I included it simply because it is one of the most evil substances voluntarily consumed by mankind. Likewise with tobacco.

As someone else pointed out, most dangerous drug have a valid use. Short-term opioid use is absolutely required after getting your bones screwed back together. Just don't continue it for more than a day or two. Likewise benzos. They can be sanity savers in a panic attack but can become dependency producing in a very short time.

Use drugs judiciously when they are necessary and the once you get the message, hang up the phone.

Full disclosure:

I started using cocaine in the 1960s when it was rare and exotic. I continued using small amounts during the 10970s to give me a small boost onstage. It seemed to increase my accuracy and the audiences seemed to like it. By the 1980 s I was starting to get less diluted cocaine a n succumbed to its allure. Soon I was buying it regularly and before too long I tried injecting it.  The first time I tried freebase I realized it was just like injecting it but much more convenient. I fucked up and spent a friend's money  in one night.

By the end of the 1980s I had tapered off, first by not consuming any until I'd paid for my purchase with sales. Then I realized that was bullshit and I stopped buying it but still accepted feebies. Then I stopped doing it completely for a year until I was handed  joint at a Christmas party that had some coke in it. Next thing I knew I was asking for more like some kind of crackhead. That was the last time cocaine entered my body.. Dec 1988.

1972 to 1991 various things.

no desire for them anymore.

if you need a boost coke does give it but a small amount of meth and steady coffee will allow you to drive from NYC to Miami with just piss breaks.
