The Oscars added new eligibility standards for Best Picture. A film has to meet two of the four standards, and one of them (Standard A) focuses on on-screen representation. It can qualify in one of three ways:
• Lead/Supporting Roles: At least one lead or major supporting actor must be from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group.
• General Cast: At least 30% of the secondary/minor cast must come from two or more underrepresented groups. These groups include women, racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with cognitive or physical disabilities.
• Story Focus: The film’s main narrative or theme centers on one or more underrepresented groups.
