A few months ago, I forgot my password because I've been logged in to Bitcointalk for many yearsand I'm a human too, I make mistakes, I forget things, so I forgot my password. I knew what kind of password I had but I missed some part of it, I have a unique password for Bitcointalk, very hard to hack with lots of different characters, numbers and etc. After 30 failed attempts, I managed to log in to my account. I couldn't repair it with my old email, so this was my only option. I'm glad that Bitcointalk allowed me enter my account without blocking and restricting. I prefer passwords to be handled this way over blocking access to hours or days or forever after a failed attempt.
That surely took a lot of tries. Currently I'm trying to crack an old encrypted database, that I forgot password of. Tried all the combinations that I knew or can remember and still trying, but damn none of it seems to be working. Apparently there is no other ways to unlock it without the passphrase.
Why not use a password manager?
Personally I never used one! Any recommendations? Heard a lot about bitwarden and keepass, but I'm not sure of their reliability! And at the end of the day, I'll probably forget the master password to unlock everything like I did with my database backup! I should have made another copies..
