The person in that story has carried out his lifetimes worth of gambling and risk, more then he ever wanted to. He has had his fill and somehow he came out ok but its filled every possibility he had to ever gamble agaiin.   A bit like giving a kid a cigar when fiirst curious about smoking, they are done because it was way too much.   Its kinda the most healthy responce a human could have imo.
