Yeah, when operating visually, especially with huge focal length telescopes, there's a lot of drift to compensate for.
Those more modern, compact SCT with Alt/Az Mount GoTo-Telescopes come in handy nowadays. They also don't cost a fortune and you could do basic photography with them, too.
